Changpeng Zhao: A year after freedom-crypto revolution or step backwards?

Changpeng Zhao, the former CEO of the Krypto exchange Binance, fires a look back on his past year after his release from the US prison on October 3, 2025. Zhao was imprisoned more than a year ago and spent four months behind bars after he was condemned at Binance for non-compliance with anti-money laundering regulations. Today he not only celebrates his release, but also highlights positive developments within the crypto community that took place during and after his detention.

After Zhao paid a fine of $ 50 million, he was released prematurely. He sees his commitment in the crypto world as decisive, especially after Bitcoin (BTC) achieved new all-time highs at $ 124,128 (ETH) at $ 124,128 in August 2025. The Binance Coin (BNB) also impressively presented itself last September with a new high of $ 1,079.

Personal projects and new initiatives

In the months after his release, Zhao launched new initiatives that should not only benefit the crypto industry. He took over the management of Yzi Labs, a risk capital company with an impressive portfolio of $ 10 billion. He also founded the Giggle Academy, a non-profit training platform that has collected over $ 4 million in donations in less than a week. This platform offers a free education for at least 50,000 children and covers both traditional subjects such as mathematics and natural sciences as well as modern topics such as finance, blockchain and emotional intelligence.

Zhao also expressed the desire to pardon the former President Donald Trump, similar to the case of Ross Ulbricht. He praised Trump's presidency as a "pro crypto" and referred to the latest initiatives such as the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and the Genius Act.

Changes in the regulatory landscape

Another point that Zhao spoke about concerns the changes in the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) under the new chairman Paul Atkins. He noticed that the SEC is now pursuing a strategy that is directed against the previous anti-crypto attitude. These changes in the regulatory landscape could be crucial for the future of the crypto industry and especially for Binance.

With a clear focus on mentoring and support for aspiring crypto projects as well as areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics and biotechnology, plans Zhao plans to expand its influence on the industry and to promote the next generation of innovators. At a time when the crypto community is constantly changing, Zhao remains a central figure that hopes for a new chapter in his career and in the industry.
