Unexplained 39 million euros: Malta asked to claim BNB funds!
On October 16, 2025, there will be news from the world of cryptocurrencies that deserve special attention. Conor Grogan, director at Coinbase, has pointed to a significant amount of Binance’s native token BNB that remains unclaimed. According to Grogan, this amount totals 30,644 BNB, which is now worth about $39 million as the cryptocurrency has increased significantly in value over the past few years.
The BNB coins come from a 2018 humanitarian effort where Binance and crypto users donated $200,000 in BNB to help terminally ill patients in Malta. However, this generous donation has not yet been withdrawn. Grogan appeals to the citizens of Malta to urge their government to access these funds and use them for the patients they support. The initiative was the result of a collaboration between Binance’s Blockchain Charity Foundation (BCF) and the Malta Community Chest Fund (MCCF).
Legal dispute between BCF and MCCF
However, legal disputes have also arisen in this matter. MCCF has accused Binance of failing to properly submit required documents. In return, Binance claimed that MCCF did not provide the necessary crypto wallet addresses for the beneficiaries. Despite these differences, Binance expressed hope in 2021 that it would be able to resolve the disputes amicably.
Grogan's recent comments have raised awareness of these unused funds and could increase pressure for relevant authorities to take action. BNB is currently trading at a price of $1,215, down 5.5% in the last 24 hours.
The case is a powerful example of how financial resources in the crypto world can be used not only as assets but also as important support for humanitarian causes. Developments remain to be seen, particularly whether the parties concerned can resolve the legal conflict to provide patients in Malta with the support they need.
