Darknet Market Solaris chopped by competitors, Elliptic reveals -

According to the cryptoanalysis company Elliptic, a leading marketplace on the Dark Web, Solaris, was hit by a competitor. It is believed that the platform associated with Russia, the attempt to occupy the room that has become free by the broken Hydra, had conquered to a fifth of the illegal market in front of the hack.

Solaris allegedly taken over from the Darknet marketplace called Kraken

Solaris, an important marketplace for drugs and other illegal products, was the goal of a hacker attack that was carried out by a similar company, octopus, not to be confused with the known cryptocurrency exchange with the same name.

After the law enforcement authorities had closed Hydra in April last year, the former market leader in this business, Server in Germany and arrested, an alleged operator in Russia, was able to estimate between 20 20 % and 25 % of the market share.

This week the Blockchain forensic company reported that since Friday, January 13th, those who visited the Onionite have been moved to Kraken. The latter claimed to have taken control of the infrastructure, the Gitlab repository and the source code from Solaris and blocked its Bitcoin walls.

Kraken is another player on the Dark Web and, like Solaris and Hydra, aims at the Russian-language segment of the underground market. The illegal trading platforms are suspected of having other connections to Russia.

For example, Solaris is said to have used the services of one of the Russian "patriotic" hacker groups. The Kremlin-friendly Killet is known for this, distributed denial of service attacks ( ddos ) attacks on Ukraine at the end of February 2022 was invaded.

This is not the first attempt to penetrate Solaris. According to A, the cyber-intelligence expert Alex Holden, born in Ukraine, claimed to hack into the marketplace test report in December, and to receive part of the bitcoins who were sent to dealers who use the website and were sent to their owners.

Supported by his cyber security company said Holden that he targeted a wallet that was used for crypto exchange transactions, and was able to divide 1.6 Bitcoin . The cryptocurrency was later donated to a charity based in Kiev.
