Revolution in DeFi: USDY stablecoin brings yields to Stellar!

Ondo Finance launched a novel stablecoin called USDY on the Stellar network today, October 11, 2025. This income-producing digital currency is backed by short-term US government bonds and bank deposits, making it an interesting option for investors looking to invest their holdings profitably.

USDY stands out from other stablecoins because it accumulates yield daily while remaining liquid. This makes it particularly attractive to various target groups, including individuals, small businesses and institutions. Ian De Bode, Chief Strategy Officer at Ondo Finance, highlights the unique combination of stability, liquidity and yield that USDY offers.

Yield-generating stablecoin

A key feature of USDY is its role as collateral in the Stellar DeFi ecosystem. This allows users to maximize their returns in an innovative way while taking advantage of the benefits of the decentralized financial market. Additionally, USDY promotes more efficient cross-border payments, making international transactions easier and more cost-effective.

The stablecoin is now integrated into various Stellar-based applications accessible to users. These include LOBSTR, Aquarius, Meru, Soroswap and Decaf Wallet. This ensures that USDY can find immediate adoption in the existing Stellar ecosystem.

Market integration and competition

It is important to note that USDY is the first product of its kind on the Stellar network to automatically generate returns. While Stellar already offers other fiat-backed stablecoins such as USD Coin (USDC) and EURC, they are unable to generate yield. Other tokenized assets on Stellar, such as Etherfuse's stablebonds, function more as bonds instead of stablecoins and thus differ significantly from the approach Ondo Finance takes with USDY.

With this launch, USDY could boost competition in the stability and yield-oriented digital currencies space and could represent an attractive alternative for many users. Ondo Finance's innovative strength and commitment to new financial solutions are clear signs that the DeFi sector continues to grow dynamically.
