Revolution in the K-Content: New Remix platform NPLUG starts 2025!

On September 22, 2025, Barunson, the renowned studio behind the Oscar-winning film Parasite, and the Story Foundation in Seoul, South Korea announced the launch of nPLUG. This novel platform will allow fans to legally remix film, music and entertainment IP. The partnership aims to create an innovative model where creators can retain their intellectual property (IP) rights and receive financial support directly from fans.

The discussion about the rights of creators has gained sharpness in the entertainment industry. Platforms such as Netflix and Studios often keep most of the controls over the IPs, while the creative minds behind these content draw little or no direct benefit. With the introduction of NPLUG, the developers of this platform want to reduce the legal hurdles for the remixing of IPS and promote a fair and transparent IP ecosystem.

Innovative technology for creative freedom

NPLUG will act as the first remix platform for cultural IPS. Thanks to the integration of programmable licenses in short form media content, users will be able to create on-chain assets that contain embedded license conditions and automated royalties. By using smart contracts, the origin of the content is regulated, permits are simplified and new monetarization channels created.

In addition, the platform is operated on the Layer 1 Blockchain Story, which was specially designed for the development of IP. Story has already received over 136 million USD from well -known investors such as A16Z, Polychain and Samsung Ventures, which further consolidates the technical basis of NPLUG.

Share income and to secure advantages for creators

A key feature of nPLUG is that revenue from advertising or in-app purchases is automatically shared with the original IP owners. These new monetary opportunities aim to give creative individuals more control over their works while promoting their financial security.

The introduction of NPLUG is planned for the fourth quarter of 2025. This makes Korea a leading role in a global movement that aims to convert cultural IP into programmable capital. This could be seen as a turning point in the way in which content is created, shared and monetized.

Barunson has an impressive history of successful productions, including films such as Mother, Inside Men, The Age of Shadows and Cobweb. With the nPLUG project and a newly established KRW 340 billion K-Entertainment investment fund, the platform is expected to have a significant impact on the creative landscape both in Korea and globally. The focus is on supporting Korean storytellers who have garnered global attention, including hits like “Squid Game” and “Baby Shark.”

The partnership between Barunson and the Story Foundation will help to write a new chapter in IP use, which is not only important for creators, but also opens up new ways for the entire entertainment industry.
