AT&T payment: Up to 5,000 euros in compensation after a data breach!
AT&T has agreed to a $177 million settlement in a landmark data breach lawsuit. The lawsuit was filed because the company allegedly failed to protect its customers' personal information, resulting in significant data breaches. Affected customers could now apply for compensation of up to $5,000 for the damage they sustained.
The company's privacy issues began with an announcement on March 30, 2024, in which AT&T confirmed that customer data, including addresses, Social Security numbers and passwords, had been published on the dark web since a data breach in 2019. Additionally, on July 12, 2024, the Company discovered that call and text message logs had been illegally downloaded, affecting nearly all wireless customers from May 2022 to October 2022 and some customers on January 2, 2023.
Details about the data breaches
AT&T denies any wrongdoing in the management of customer data or in such cases. Still, the security incidents are believed to have affected millions of AT&T customers. In order to accommodate affected customers, they will be given the opportunity to make claims for compensation until November 18th.
These developments reflect negatively on companies' ability to adequately protect their customers' sensitive data. Given the frequency of such incidents in the technology and communications industries, customers and consumer organizations are now urgently seeking better security measures. Experts emphasize the need for companies to implement more robust security protocols to prevent further such serious incidents.
