In the Hungarian capital Budapest, a statue of the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, was unveiled on Thursday. It is located in the Graphisoft Park. According to the initiative's website:
The goal of the statue is to honor Satoshi Nakamoto ... his work is really something you will remember. Not only because of its meaning in the IT world, but because of its value for humanity in general.
"Satoshi's statue represents a general human figure because we do not know the gender, the breed, the age and size of the mysterious developer", describes the website. "Satoshi wears a hoodie with the Bitcoin logo on the chest. The statue consists of bronze, the face consists of a special bronze aluminum network, so every visitor can see their own face when looking at Satoshi. We are all Satoshi."
The basic idea for a Satoshi statue comes from András Györfi, editor of the Hungarian crypto messages side Kripto Akadémia. He said the statue was an attempt to raise awareness of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.
The statue is the work of two Hungarian sculptors, Gergely Réka and Tamás Gilly. They tried to present a human form while they remained true to the anonymity of Satoshi Nakamoto.
Gilly said the Associated Press:
It was a big challenge. It is very difficult to make a portrait sculpture of a person that we do not know exactly what they look like. I hope that the language of the sculpture has succeeded in conveying Bitcoin's basic idea that it belongs to everyone and nobody at the same time.
