The popular forum and news aggregation web portal Reddit has unveiled the company's Community Points Beta program, in which Reddit users can "own part of their community" with "custom tokens" for sub-posts.
Blockchain-supported Reddit Community points: "The first step into another future for online communities"
end of July, reddit Points system of the platform would use the Layer 2 (L2) protocol Arbitrum. This week Reddit has revealed a new website that the Community Points-Betafrat says Subreddits are bound. At the time of the letter there is a waiting list and users can Registration via a form Reddit created.
"Community Points is the first step into another future for online communities," Reddit describes the new beta program. "These tokens live in the blockchain, which means that they are really owned by the community. Over time, their community will benefit from even greater control and independence ... on and outside of Reddit."
REDDIT says that users "can earn something valuable for all the hours they invest in their community. [And] unlock special functions." Redditors can "buy community functions with community points, such as special memberships and bonuses, [and] stimulate better content and conversations," the company says. In addition, Redditors can use surveys and systems to find out the distribution process of the community points. The Reddit website adds:
Each subreddit creates its own community points token with a custom name and symbol.
cryptocurrency subreddit likes the community point concept, the most popular Bitcoin subreddit may not like to be too happy to go to Ethereum-based Subreddit-tokens
In addition, Reddit says that people can "own" their reputation because the point system will be a "measure of call" in a certain community. "In the subreddit, you are displayed next to user names so that the largest participants stand out from the crowd," explains Reddit. Community points were discussed in Special Forums like the Subreddit R/Cryptocurrency and a large number of subscribers to the subrddits liked the idea.
It will be interesting to see whether R/Bitcoin implemented a community point token or not, since discussions about alternative crypto-assets are prohibited from this subreddit. In addition, many R/Bitcoin subscribers do not want the blockchain etherum too much, so that their use for a community point system could be considered hypocritical. One can certainly say that many other crypto and non-crypto forums on Reddit will probably have no problems with the Ethereum-based community point program.
