REASONLABS that users offer cyber protection at the company level worldwide, stated: "In order to attract as many victims as possible, attackers have to stay up to date on trend topics." The cyber security company explained:

In this case we are dealing with someone who has placed a Monero miner in a torrent download of the apparently new film Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Spider-Man from Sony/Marvel: No Way Home cracked the 1 billion dollar brand at the box office and is therefore the highest sales film of 2021. The third part of Tom Holland's Spider-Man series, No Way Home, is the first published film during the Covid 19 pandemic reach.

Reasonlabs said: "The file identifies itself as the 'spiderman_net_putidomoi.torrent.exe', which means from the Russian 'spiderman_no_wayhome.torrent.exe'." The company assumes that the file will most likely come from a Russian Torrecting website.

according to the company:

This miner adds Windows Defender exclusions, creates persistence and creates a watchdog process to maintain its activity.

"The malware tries to avoid eyes by using" legitimate "names for the files and processes it created. For example, it claims to be from Google and puts files with names like Sihost64.exe and injects in Svchost.exe, ”said Reasonlabs.

The cyber security company pointed out that a simple precaution is always to check whether the expansion of the downloaded file matches the file extension that is to be downloaded. A film file should end with ".MP4" and not with ".exe". The company added: "To ensure that you see the real file extension, open a folder, go to 'view' and activate 'file name extensions'. This ensures that you see the full file type." You can find the complete analysis of this malware here .
