Metamask issues warning after iCloud phishing fraud worth $ 650,000

- The wallet app calls for users to deactivate iCloud backups for metamask by going to settings> profile> iCloud> Manage memory> go backups
- The answer from Metamask was criticized by community members
Crypto Wallet Metamask emphasized a warning in which users were asked to deactivate their iCloud backups after Apple's service was exploited in a phishing fraud of an estimated $ 650,000.
The Defi Wallet provider said that on Sunday users who have activated iCloud for iPhone application data are susceptible to hackers, since the backups contain their password-encrypted metamask safe.
"If your password is not strong enough and someone phish your iCloud registration information, this can mean stolen funds", Metamask tweeted .
The company did not answer immediately to a request for comment.
In such a phishing attack, Hacker deducted an estimated $ 650,000 from the OpenSea account of the NFT investor Domenic Iacovone on April 14th, including several collector's items from the Mutant Ape Yacht Club.

"I received a call from Apple, literally called back from Apple (on my caller ID) because I suspected fraud and it was an Apple number," said Iacovone tweeted . "So I believed them asked for a code that was sent to my phone, and two seconds later my entire metamask was deleted."
The answer from Metamask has been criticized by community members who argue that the backup function used in iCloud either deactivated or for hackers who are looking for a way into the digital stamps of the users should be made more difficult.

The parent company of Metamask, Consensys, said in February that she wanted to use NFTS (not fungible tokens) to add more users in their digital wallet and at the same time build up a white label NFT platform.
While efforts are made on this front, critics argue that cases like that of Iacovone show that Consensys must improve security if it aims to attract the “next wave” of wallet users.
