Cryptopunks, one of the first non-fungible tokens (NFT) collections on the Ethereum Blockchain, has achieved an important milestone with its sixth anniversary.
Since its introduction in June 2017, Cryptopunks have captivated the world with its 10,000 digital collector's pieces and left an indelible impression in the NFT area as the largest NFT collection after market capitalization.
According to the blockchain analysis company Nansen, Cryptopunks currently has an estimated market capitalization of over 806,801 ETH, which corresponds to a value of more than $ 1.53 billion.

In a Tweet-Thread Nansen explained that Cryptopunks on June 23rd 2017 had a “modest beginning” when only 287 wallets claimed the digital collector's pieces free of charge after their publication. The Canadian software developers Matt Hall and John Watkinson formed the two -member team of the Larva Labs Studios, which launched the collection.
By the end of the start date, 291 unique wallets had cryptopunks after the first applicants sold some of the assets. A week later, the NFTs reached an average price of 0.5 ETH with a volume of 124 ETH. Ether was worth $ 300 at the time.
Almost a year later, in April 2018, fewer than 500 unique wallets contained cryptopunks, and the number had grown to 1,000 by November 2020. The growth could be related to the advent of Wrapped Punks in September 2020.
packaged punks are ERC-721-NFTS, which are supported by original ERC 20 points and are tradable in marketplaces such as OpenSea and rarible. So far, 770 points have been packed, and the contract is the largest punk holder, followed by the NFT company Yuga Labs with 422 points.
The most expensive cryptopunk transaction
In 2021, the value of cryptopunks rapidly increased together with the number of new collectors. While the number of wallets reached with at least one punk 3693, the prices for collectibles, especially for those with rare attributes such as alien and monkeys, rose.
until February 18, 2021, Cryptopunks achieved a weekly volume of 24,969 ETH ($ 48 million). On the same day, punk #4156 was sold for 650 ETH ($ 1.25 million), which was the first time that a collector's item was sold for more than one million dollars.
The most extraordinary cryptopunk transaction took place a year later when punk #5822 was sold for $ 8,000 ($ 23.7 million), which made it the most expensive punk so far.
Yuga Labs publishes Cryptopunks book
On the occasion of the sixth anniversary, Yuga Labs, the owner of Cryptopunks, teamed up with the ZAK Group to publish the official documentation of the NFT collection in a unique book.
The catalog will bring the undefeated stories of the collection to life and describe every punk pixel for pixels in detail.
