EUL increases by 35 %, since Euler Finance Hacker returns further Ethereum worth $ 100 million

The hacker behind the largest Defi Exploit in 2023 continues to show controversial behavior, since this time he returned most of the funds stolen by Euler Finance.

In two separate transactions, the perpetrator sent ETH back to the protocol.

  • cryptopotato reported on the flash loan attack, which took place at the beginning of March and at the USDC worth 198 million US dollars, ether, packed BTC and skimmed down the Defi credit protocol. Later reports indicated that this weak point was obvious over eight months before the exploit.
  • The team behind the project offered the attacker a bounty of $ 20 million that she rejected and began to wash parts of the proceeds over Tornadocash.
  • Interestingly, the perpetrator returned a few funds to a Euler user who complained on Twitter. Shortly thereafter, the attacker also sent a little more Ether back to the Defi protocol, while reports indicated that they could be associated with the notorious Lazarus group.
  • More on-chain data from this weekend show that the hacker carried out two separate transactions in which ETH worth over $ 104 million was returned to Euler Finance.
  • The first was carried out on March 25, where they sent back 51,000 ETH. The second, which took place hours later, saw the return of a further 7,737 ETH.
  • The decision to return the majority of the funds had a positive effect on the native EUL token of the protocol, which has increased by more than 35 % on a 24-hour scale.
