The Belgian MP says that he will receive his entire salary in Bitcoin - "We can no longer ignore this new world"

Christophe de Beukelaer, a member of the Brussels Parliament, said in a blog post on his personal website that he would receive his salary for 2022 in Bitcoin.

The legislator said that "we with the blockchain are at the beginning of a revolution of the same size as we experienced it 30 years ago". He believes that all sectors are "disrupted" and adds that in other countries "big institutions start to invest massively in crypto-assets so as not to miss this gigantic opportunity.

"It is the task of politics to draw the population aware of these upcoming social changes," he emphasized:

We can no longer remain ignorant of this new world. It is a bit like clinging to the carriage or candle when cars and light bulbs appear. Acceptance will be exponentially.

To arouse interest in Bitcoin and the crypto industry, the legislature "decided to convert its entire salary in Bitcoin for the entire year 2022," said the contribution.

The legislator said:

I'm the first in Europe, but not in the world who wants to steer the spotlight on cryptocurrencies with such an approach.

He also referred to the Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, who receives his first three salary checks in cryptocurrency. His first salary check was recently converted into bitcoin ( bitcoin ) and ether ( eth ) via coinbase. Mayor Adams said he had converted his salary check to Bitcoin to send a message that New York City was open for technology .

"I think it is not too late for Brussels and Belgium to be at the forefront of the cryptocurrency industry. We already have some great companies in this area ... but it is time to position ourselves clearly and create a real ecosystem," concluded de Beukelaer.
