Weidmann from the ECB wants the digital euro small

"A step -by -step procedure could make sense in view of the associated risks - that is, a digital euro with a certain equipment and the possibility of adding further functionalities later," said Weidmann at a conference.

The ECB gave the digital euro green light at the beginning of summer, but the actual introduction of the currency could be about five years away.

One of his main worries included Weidmann that consumers could quickly convert their bank deposits into central bank money money, destabilization of the financial system, since they withdraw an important source of financing.
