Ripple boss reveals: Bitcoin really is that valuable!

On October 31, 2025, Ripple CEO David Schwartz outlined Bitcoin's main use cases in a post on Platform X. According to Schwartz, Bitcoin has some special characteristics: it is rare, liquid, valuable and censorship-resistant. In addition, he describes it as stable (apart from fluctuations in value), transferable, jurisdiction-free and fair.

An interesting aspect of his remarks is that Schwartz admitted to mining a total of 250 BTC in the early days of Bitcoin. However, he is not entirely sure if he stopped accumulating BTC before XRP came out.

Speculation as a driving force

A central theme in Schwartz's analysis is the influence of speculation on the value of cryptocurrencies. He emphasizes that the majority of value in the crypto world comes from future speculation, not future utility. According to his observations, expectations of future price changes are more important than historical events.

Schwartz also notes that the current investment thesis on Bitcoin relies heavily on speculation about future adoption. He believes that this speculation has helped achieve the price stability necessary for Bitcoin to be used in the real world, such as purchasing real estate.

Realworld Applications and the Future of Bitcoin

Despite his critical view of crypto's current usefulness, Schwartz has expressed in the past that the number of real-world problems being solved by cryptocurrencies is currently relatively small. Still, he believes Bitcoin could maintain a dominant position in the market due to its solid Layer 1 technology and first-mover advantage.

Additionally, he points out that Bitcoin's value could also come from its use in other blockchain technologies and its role in the financial services sector. These aspects illustrate the diverse potential of Bitcoin, which goes beyond pure speculation.
