The Reddit Wallstreetbets Community changes to Crypto
The group's moderators have created a spinoff subreddit that is devoted to the crypto discussion.
The central theses
- moderators from/R/Wallstreetbets have created a new subreddit that is devoted to the discussion about cryptocurrencies.
- previously moderators restricted the discussion about cryptocurrencies because they feared that they would take advantage of the entire forum.
- Reddits/R/Wallstreetbets is controversial due to its role in the massive empty sales of Gamestop (NYSE :) this year.
Moderators of Reddit's/Wallstreetbets Community have decided to create a spin-off subreddit that focuses on cryptocurrency.
crypto forum was created
The new subreddit is called/R/WallstreetbetsCrypto and, according to an announcement published on Wednesday, is operated by the same moderators in the same format.
Although /R /Wallstreetbets it enables members to discuss most types of investments, discussions about cryptocurrencies in the main superbreddit are largely prohibited. Moderator Bawse1 explained that a crypto-focused discussion has been considered, but not implemented since April, since concerns about the complete occupation of the forum were not implemented by crypto topics.
"We always kept crypto from/r/wallstreetbets because it is simply not what this community is about," he noted.
later he found a way to "admit at least a discussion" by only allowing and discussions. This guideline was implemented in April and temporarily reversed so that the members have no reliable way to discuss cryptocurrency.
Wallstreetbets remains controversial
WallstreetbetsCrypto gained awareness at the beginning of this year when members of the Robinhood trade app in a massive gamestop shares (GME). The incident caused Robinhood (Nasdaq :) to briefly stop trading. The US government was later involved when it stopped hearing in which the CEOs of Reddit and Robinhood took part.
The increase in Dogecoin in January was also tangential to /r /wallstreetbets. Although there was no discussion about Dogecoin in the subreddit, a user was a user on Twitter who was connected to the group for mass investments in the asset.
It is unlikely that the new cryptofocussed subreddit will have as much impact in the foreseeable future as his mother group. While/R/Wallstreetbets has 10.8 million readers,/R/Wallstreetbetscrypto has only 13,800 readers.
In addition, an earlier, non -related subreddit called/r/cryptostosteetbets has so far attracted 30,000 readers.
