WEF reveals Global Collaboration Village Metaverse-platform-metaverse

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has announced the introduction of the Global Collaboration Village, its own meta-verse platform this year. Klaus Schwab, chairman of WEF, plans to use this representation of Davos to enable people and managers to meet in virtual worlds and to coordinate global cooperation efforts efficiently.

WEF to promote the meta-verse-based collaboration

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has announced the introduction of its own meta-verse platform called Global Collaboration Village. The digital world, which is designed in such a way that it looks like the actual city of Davos, in which the organization meets once a year, is said to enable more efficient cooperation between the leading minds of the world.

According to Klaus Schwab, the chairman of the organization, the WEF plans to use this new world to transform the meetings in Davos, which normally only take a week into a project that enables interviews and conversations between leading personalities in the world all year round.

Schwab is optimistic in this regard, since the effect of the policy discussed in Davos could be reinforced by constant feedback. "That could revolutionize global cooperation," he says told Zeit Magazin.

The organization believes that meetings via avatars and digital representations could promote creativity behind these meetings compared to the video meetings that usually take place during these events.

Technology and partner

The technology that would drive this meta-verse representation from Davos would be provided by Microsoft and his grid tissue suite, which expands the functionality of teams, the popular software for business meetings, so that users can appear as 3D avatars. Mesh also has a specially developed app for VR headsets that enables more interactivity with the meta-verse worlds.

This measure of immersion is the key to the applications that the WEF wants to give these rooms, such as showing the effect that could have certain measures, for example when restoring coral reefs in the ocean. Kelly Omundsen, head of the WEF-Metaverse project, said the group “Attempts to do things that can only happen in metavers-because if it is better done personally or on paper, it doesn't make sense.”

Schwab has already won the cooperation and presence of several partners, including Meta and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which will populate the village frames with their projects. He expects resistance to this initiative, but also expects a stronger participation of people outside the organization. He explained:

We need new ways of international cooperation that enable us to include many more people in our discussions.
