Over 6,000 customers lost money - security

The Coinbase cryptocurrency exchange listed on the Nasdaq has announced that at least 6,000 users were victims of a hacking campaign to get unauthorized access to the accounts of coinbase customers. The hackers also used an error in the SMS account production process of Coinbase to get access to user accounts.

Unfortunately, between March and May 2021, they were victims of a third party to get unauthorized access to the accounts of coinbase customers and to withdraw customer funds from the Coinbase platform. At least 6,000 coin base customers were removed from their accounts, including them.
In order to access a user account at Coinbase, the hackers had to know the email addresses, passwords and telephone numbers linked to the accounts and have access to a personal email mailing entrance, the company said. "This type of campaign usually includes phishing attacks or other social engineering techniques to make a victim to unknowingly reveal login information to a malignant player."
Coinbase further explained that “for customers who use SMS texts for two-factor authentication, the third-party provider has used an error in the SMS account manufacturing process of Coinbase to maintain an SMS-two factor authentication sticks and get access to their account.”
The stock exchange found that as soon as they had reached the affected user accounts, "their money could be transferred to crypto wallets that are not connected to Coinbase".
In the letter it was also pointed out that Coinbase updated its SMS account production protocols as soon as it learned about the problem, and added:
We will credit your account of the value of the currency, which was improperly removed from your account at the time of the incident. Some customers have already been reimbursed - we will make sure that all affected customers receive the full value of their loss. This should be displayed in your account at the latest.
The crypto exchange noted on the Nasdaq also said that she carried out an internal investigation into this incident and that the company works closely with the law enforcement authorities to find the people behind this hack.
Nonetheless, Coinbase insisted on it: "We have not found any evidence that these third parties received [user] information from Coinbase itself."
