The new decentralized organization Opendao has given a Christmas gift to users of Opensea, one of the largest NFT marketplaces by trading volume. The organization launched its own token and organized an airdrop to distribute it to users who purchased NFTs through Opensea, allowing them to claim 50% of the total supply of SOS, their native token, in gratitude for popularizing NFTs.

Opensea users receive Opendao airdrop

User of Open sea received a holiday gift this year from a new DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) that launched an airdrop to thank marketplace users and show their gratitude for their support of the NFT environment. Opendao started on Christmas Day and dropped 50% of its total supply to all users who have traded NFTs and transacted on the Opensea marketplace since day one. The snapshot for this airdrop was taken on December 23rd.

The organization claims that 20% of its total issuance is dedicated to compensating verified fraud victims on Opensea using SOS, the DAO's native token, and supporting emerging artists and their original works.

After initial concerns about authorizing an unknown contract to take control of users' Ethereum wallets, according to reports on social media user from Opensea received thousands of dollars in SOS airdrops. At the time of writing, more than 240,000 addresses have claimed the SOS airdrop and the token has been listed on two centralized exchanges, Oxex and Kucoin.

A new way to airdrop

The dynamics of the Opendao airdrop are different from others organized before. This is the opinion of Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, who praised the way this particular airdrop was organized. He specified:

OK — b4 all VC think pieces begin…. these airdrops (like $ENS before it) flip script about how EVERYONE will value their time + spend online👉 you will finally be rewarded with 4. They are incentives that I (as a founder/investor) love to bring into the COMMUNITY to make everything work.

He further elaborated that since the blockchain is a public record, many parties can organize these airdrops and there will be a lot of spam flooding people's wallets in the future. However, he noted that great projects will come out.

SOS has seen a notable price increase since its launch. According to price information provided from Coingecko, the coin rose from a price of $0.00000140 at launch to $0.00001108. It has since declined to an interim price of $0.00000650.
