The so-called crypto bridge is to be reopened almost three months after the asset transfer protocol of the popular blockchain-based game Axie Infinity was injured for more than $ 500 million.
The fast reopening was supported by binance $ 150 million Finance round Sky Mavis should help to reimburse users on the play-to-earn gaming platform. The company claims to have undergone several audits since the March Hack, but it remains to be seen whether the users will entrust Ronin to their money again.
In the game, the largest, which is based on non-fungible tokens (NFTS), players fight to earn tokens that can be exchanged for other currencies via the Ronin Bridge. Players without access to Binance have no longer been able to take off their tokens since the hack and the subsequent shutdown.
The hackers took control of the Validator nodes of the Ronin Bridge and stole 176,300 ether and 25.5 million USDC. The exploit was one of several recent transfer protocol hacks, although Wormhole and Horizon also suffered hundreds of millions of raids this year.
"While we fought for the acceptance of the mainstream, we took some compromises that ultimately made us susceptible to this type of attack," said Sky Mavis in a blog post.
After the financing round, Sky Mavis was subjected to an internal audit and two external audits. The company also promised to increase its validator nodes from nine internally operated validators to 21 more decentralized validators. Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao is optimistic that improved security measures will restore confidence in Sky Mavis.
"We have seen the enormous work and growth of the Sky Mavis team since cooperation at the Axie Infinity project on Binance Launchpad," said Zhao in a statement. "We are firmly convinced that Sky Mavis will bring a lot of value and growth in the entire industry."
Sky Mavis has promised to return all stolen user money when the Ronin Bridge is opened again on June 28th. It remains unclear how many users will use the product again.
The Axie Infinity Influencer "Cloudwhite" said Blockworks, he believes that most players who hope to lift their money from Axie have already found a way. The remaining users should continue to use the Ronin bridge after reopening.
"The good news is that in less than a week we will know in which direction things are developing," said Cloudwhite.
