The Bitrue cryptocurrency exchange was exploited today, with the perpetrator being able to withdraw cryptocurrency worth around $ 23 million. The exploit was officially confirmed. Bitrue revealed in a Twitter thread posted today that the stock exchange previously suffered a “short exploit” in one of its hot wallets. 1/4: We identified a short exploit in one of our hot wallets on April 14, 2023 at 7:18 a.m. (UTC).   • according to the announcement:

The attackers were able to withdraw assets worth around $ 23 million in ETH, QNT, GALA, Shib, Hot and Matic. The affected Hot Wallet only holds less than 5 % of our total funds. The rest of our wallets remains safe and was not compromised.

  • It is not yet clear whether the exploit is due to a technical error or social engineering.
  • The stock exchange has stopped payments by April 18, "to carry out additional security controls".
