Ethereum Foundation launches secret project for ultimate data protection!
On October 9, 2025, the Ethereum Foundation (EF) launched a significant initiative called the “Privacy Cluster.” This new measure aims to expand privacy efforts within the Ethereum ecosystem, thereby strengthening important features for users. The Privacy Cluster brings together 47 experienced researchers and engineers who will work under the leadership of Igor Barinov, the founder of Blockscout.
To fund this initiative's research and development projects, EF recently sold 1,000 ETH. These funds will be used to support various privacy projects that aim to implement essential privacy features on Ethereum. The initiative builds on the work of the Privacy Stewards of Ethereum and the EF, which have been active since 2018 and have already made fundamental progress in the area of data protection.
Focus on modern data protection technologies
A central aspect of the Privacy Cluster is the collaboration with various projects within the R&D hub. These include initiatives such as Private Reads/Writes, Private Proving, Private Identities as well as the Privacy Experience and the Institutional Privacy Task Force. Special attention is paid to Kohaku, a privacy-friendly wallet and open source software development kit.
The EF emphasizes that privacy should be a fundamental feature of the Ethereum ecosystem. In this context, research efforts are focused on modern cryptography, institutional pilot projects and improving the user experience. Technologies explored in this framework include zero-knowledge proofs, scalable and confidential solutions, and application layer tools such as semaphores and stealth addresses.
Potential for different areas
The teams involved in the Privacy Cluster will work out how data protection can be optimized for payments, governance and identity management. These efforts could also bring significant benefits to key areas such as real-world assets, trading funds, and oracle and compliance industries. By implementing strong data protection functions, the attractiveness of the Ethereum ecosystem should be further increased.
Overall, the… (crypto.news) reported initiative demonstrates the Ethereum Foundation's commitment to proposing and implementing strong privacy measures to address current challenges in the to meet blockchain technology. The Privacy Cluster is a significant step towards a more secure and user-friendly Ethereum ecosystem.
