The Ethereum Foundation confirms the date for the Shapella upgrade
In a recently published article, ETH-Core developer Tim Beiko revealed that the Shapella network upgrade is activated after months of testing and a short-lived DevNET start in the Sepolia network at Epoch 56832, which is planned for February 28th.
Shapella essentially refers to two Ethereum upgrades-"Shanghai" and "Capella". The upgrade will enable Ethereum withdrawals at the execution level and at the same time update the consensus level of the Beacon chain.
- In addition, new functionalities are introduced both in the execution and in the consensus level. The changes in the execution layer include:
- On the other hand, changes to the consensus layer for the Capella upgrade include complete and partial reputation for validators. The original singular historical roots are replaced by an independent state and block historical accumulators.
- Ethereum users or ETH owners do not have to upgrade, unless they are asked to take additional steps.
- Non-staking node operators, on the other hand, have to update their nodes for the Solia upgrade to Ethereum-Client-Releases. The same applies to the stakers.
- If a jack or a node operator does not update to the latest version, his client is synchronized with the pre-fork blockchain after the upgrade. As a result, they get stuck in an incompatible chain according to the old rules and cannot send ETH tokens or operate in the Post-Shapella Seolia network.
- The latest development comes a week after concerns about a possible delay of the Shanghai upgrade due to a weak point that was discovered in the Shapella public test network.
- Developer, however, that the problem can be fixed with a patch.
