The Valentins upgrade from Cardano is now live

The upgrade took place on February 14th at 9:44 p.m. UTC at the beginning of the era 394 around the absolute slot height 84844800 and the estimated block height 8403208.

Iog said that the differences in cryptographic algorithms and signature schemes led to the upgrade across blockchains.

As the two most popular signature schemes, Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) and Schnorr are used in the blockchains of Bitcoin, Ethereum and Polkadot.

In contrast, The Cardano network uses the Edwards-Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (Eddsa) with the elliptical curve curve25519 as a basic curve (alias Ed25519) next to it.

The difference in the cryptographic algorithms means that Cardano Dapp developer Ecdsa and Schnorr signatures would have to validate when they work with other blockchains. This increases security risks and requires considerable resources, hence the cryptographic primitives.

"The native support for SECP is now promoting cross-chain interoperability and at the same time ensures maximum security. With the #Cardano #Valentine upgrade, developers can now easily create cross-chain daps that are safe, reliable and inexpensive," said IoG.

Support for ECDSA and Schnorr signatures

In particular, only ED25519 was provided as a built-in function for Plutus, which is the mother tongue of the Smart Contract platform from Cardano.

IOG has now integrated new functions in Plutus to support ECDSA and snorries. Creating cross-chain applications is now becoming cheaper and time-consuming, since developers have access to a wider range of multi-signature designs that are native in Cardano.

"Interoperability is the key to blockchain growth. Since more and more dapps are based on #cardano, it is important that you are not only limited to an ecosystem so that users can interact with various blockchains and access a wider pallet of services," added IOG.
