California DMV puts its titles on the Blockchain - Blockchain

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in California carries out a project to digitize all of its titles and bring them to a blockchain. The project that will use the Tezos blockchain and is supported by Oxhead Alpha, a crypto developer company, should enable users to transfer titles as NFTs in the future.

Innovation comes to the DMV in California

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in California works to bring innovation into its tasks by decentralizing its functions. According to Ajay Gupta, the Chief Digital Officer of the DMV in the state, the institution is currently in the process of moving all its registered titles to the blockchain.

The project, which started in 2020 and was stopped due to the pandemic, will create a "shadow book" of all vehicle titles in the state to modernize its register and company. The new system is built on the Tezos Blockchain and is developed in partnership with Oxhead Alpha, a development company for cryptocurrencies.

The system is managed by the DMV in a privately managed instance of the Tezos blockchain, which is already running with knots, validating operations, Fortune Crypto reports .

Title broadcasts on the blockchain

The DMV of California hopes to complete the setting up of the system in the next three months and to start developing apps that offer different functionalities for customers.

one of the advertised advantages of a digitized, permanent register is that vehicles that were sold as lemons, i.e. sold with considerable defects, remain registered as such and protect future buyers. This was not possible with the current system that allowed cars approved in other countries without selling this name.

Another application of this system would be to link it to similar systems from other countries to build a global register of cars in the country, but this would depend on how interested other areas could be to implement a blockchain system.

One of the most important planned applications is to enable customers to transfer titles as non-fungible tokens (NFTS) with a consumer app managed by the DMV, provided that users meet all requirements for this. According to Guptas, this type of functionality is statements on the horizon. However, he did not name a time frame for the start of this function.
