The cryptocurrency exchange Binance has warned investors about a “massive phishing fraud via SMS”. The fraudsters sent SMS messages to crypto users to inform them about a payment request from an unknown IP address that they may want to cancel.

massive phishing fraud that aims at crypto investors

Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) tweeted on Friday:

There is a massive phishing fraud via SMS with a link to cancel payouts. It leads to a phishing website to collect your login information as in the following screenshot.

According to the Binance boss, fraudsters sent SMS messages to cryptocurrency investors, which said that a payment was requested by an unknown IP address. The message then calls on investors to click on a link to cancel the payment request. However, the link leads to a phishing website that tries to steal login information from investors.

The CEO from Binance also advised that users should always go directly to the Binance website via a bookmark or enter the URL into the browser. He emphasized:

Never click on the left of SMS.

Binance is not the only cryptocurrency exchange that was targeted by fraudsters with SMS fraud tables. In August last year, the Coinbase cryptocurrency exchange listed on the Nasdaq warned in a similar way of a phishing fraud that aims at coinbase users.

fraudsters have also tried other SMS messages to tempt investors to click on their phishing links. According to some examples posted by Coinbase, a message is: "New registration. Not you? Deactivate at [URL]." Several others inform investors that they have received Bitcoin and ask you to check the transactions or simply display them.

SMS fraud is one of the many types of fraud aiming at cryptocurrency investors. In January, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warned of cryptocurrency fraud social Medien and crypto money machine .

recently the blockchain analysis platform Chainalysis revealed that fraudsters have set a record $ 14 billion in Cryptocurrency last year. The company also found that Indianer last year visited crypto-fraud-based website.
