According to a recent notice, the world's leading blockchain provider for the sports and entertainment industry - Socios.com - will become the presenting sponsor of the Los Angeles Lakers Facebook group starting with the start of the 2021/22 NBA season.
As part of the collaboration, the platform will launch virtual events for fans. There they have the opportunity to communicate with each other and even vote on topics related to their favorite basketball team. Tim Harris – President of Business of Operations for the LA Lakers, commented:
“As an organization that values serving and connecting with our fans, we are pleased that Socios.com has a shared perspective and will help support our initiatives to support the Lakers fan base.”
In turn, Alexandre Dreyfus – CEO of Socios.com – ranked the NBA team as one of the most recognized brands in sports and marked the partnership as a great opportunity to expand the platform's offerings to the American market:
"The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most prestigious brands in sports and I'm excited to partner with them as Socios.com rapidly expands into the U.S. market. What a great way to cap off another great, incredible week of growth."
We’ve laid some really important groundwork to take fan engagement in US sports to the next level, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s next.”
Socios.com is a blockchain platform that sells “fan tokens,” giving fans the ability to influence decisions made by their favorite sports team. In recent months the company has sponsored several clubs, leagues and events.
Which teams are these?
Socios is best known for its involvement with football clubs, having already announced partnerships with European giants such as Juventus, Milan, PSG, Barcelona and others.
In August this year, one of the biggest stars - Lionel "Leo" Messi - was unable to continue his contract with his previous team Barcelona and became part of Paris Saint-Germain's multi-million dollar squad. As reported at the time, the Argentinian received a part of the “welcome package” (the registration fee) in the team’s cryptocurrency fan token – $PSG, as the payment was made by the token provider – Socios.com.
At the end of last month, the blockchain platform stretched its reach into South America by proposing to issue a fan token that could generate around $10 million in revenue for Argentina's most successful soccer club - Boca Juniors.
