60 organizations start campaign in which they ask the US congress to protect privacy-privacy

On Wednesday, 60 organizations started with cryptocurrencies, open source and free software as well as human rights and data protection projects, a new campaign that calls for the 118th US Congress to protect privacy. The groups, including Fight for the Future, Electric Coin Co. and the Tor project insist that the Congress has to issue guidelines that are committed to protecting privacy.

a new campaign , which was launched by 60 organizations, bears the slogan "Tell Congress to Protect Privacy". The groups are calling on the legislator of the US federal government to work both online and offline for data protection. The supportive institutions include Fight for the Future, Blockchain Association, Proton, The Tor project, MobileCoin, Protocol Labs, Filecoin Foundation, Electric Coin Co., Defi Education Fund and Tutanota. The campaign follows Fight for the Future open letter to the congress, in which they explained that privacy was a fundamental human right.
"The protection of privacy ordinary people is the key to ensuring security, self -determination, freedom of the press and other rights that form the core of democracy," says the letter. "We welcome the recent interest in robust federal protection laws to strengthen these rights. The technologies and software tools that we develop in order to maintain the privacy of users through design are also important. Such tools help to protect themselves from a variety of damage, including discrimination, intimidation and abuse by authoritarian regime."
The campaign website enables individuals to contact the congress and to express their support for data protection and the technologies that improve it. "Now contact the congress to demand that he defend our right to privacy," says the website. The website also shows a complete list of organizations involved in the campaign. "The mission of the Tor project is the promotion of human rights through the creation and use of free and source-open anonymity and data protection technologies," said Isabela Fernandes, managing director of the Tor project. "We sign these efforts because we believe that all of the representatives, especially elected, have to defend privacy."
Paul Brigner, Head of US politics and strategic advocacy at Electric Coin Co., said: "Electric Coin Co. has fully joined this worldwide call to new US legislators to protect privacy." "We urgently ask the legislator to use data protection-friendly guidelines, including end-to-end encryption, and to reject all attempts to hinder the use or development of tools to protect privacy.
