Vitalik Buterin explains how Ethereum could improve the user experience
What does Ethereum have to be better? According to his founder, everything revolves around the user experience. And on February 28, Vitalik Buterin spoke about the many problems in the Ethereum network that must be remedied before it can really be solved.
VITALIK said in his blog that when using the Ethereum network for processing payments due to high transaction fees, he was faced with many inconvenience, which sometimes cost more than the product for which he wanted to pay.
Vitalik's problems with ETH go back to 2021
Vitalik recalled that his problems with Ethereum payments go back to 2021 when he visited Argentina and tried to pay tea. To his surprise, the 0.003 Eth transaction was not accepted, possibly because it was under the minimum deposit of the stock exchange of 0.01-eth.
Nevertheless, Vitalik decided to send the 0.007 ETH required for the completion of this transaction. This was a triple overpayment of the product price, but it made no meaning of this fee and considered it as a simple tip because he realized that it was an error on which work had to be done to improve the user experience.
in 2022 he learned that things did not change so much. Vitalik tried to pay the tea again in another place. This time the gas fees prevented him from using his ETH because the transaction was not processed because the receiving contract "needed additional gas to handle the transfer".
These bad experiences served as a lesson to understand that "simple and robust UIS are better than unusual and elegant ones". He also learned that many users do not even know which gas limits they need to process their transactions, which is why the default values should be improved.
payment delays can be irritating for many users
Vitalik also complained about the "surprisingly long delay between my transactions", which is irritating, since there is always doubts about who is to blame if transactions are not quickly confirmed.
"Sometimes a transaction was accepted in a few seconds, but sometimes it took minutes or even hours."
He added that the team worked to improve these problems with the EIP-1559 update, which ensures that most transactions in the next block are accepted, but there is always the risk that things do not work perfectly because "still outliers remain".
If, for example, many people carry out transactions at the same time, there is a risk that the network will experience a tip of a fee, which leads to the rejection of many transactions. This problem can lead to considerable money loss even for the most experienced users, since "wallet uis are bad in showing this".
Brave Wallet has provided a problem bypass for this problem. The team sounded its suggestions and increased the maximum basic fee from 12.5 % to 33 %, which improved both the user interface and the user experience.
but the fact that many people choose central solutions instead of decentralized alternatives, especially in southern countries, because the applications are out of date with regard to the user experience.
Although the Ethereum merge has contributed to shortening the average time for the processing of transactions, there is still a lot to correct to achieve global acceptance, dream of crypto enthusiasts.
