New BHUT-MALWARE is aimed at cryptocurrency wallets via software installations-

Bitdefender, a cyber security and antivirus company, has discovered Bhunt, a new type of malware that aims to use software installations on cryptocurrency wallets. The malware also works for installations of unsecured or cracked software, which is already delivered with the system to be provided in desktop environments. After installation, the software extracts passphrases and seeds from common wallets.

Bhunt malware in the wild spotted

Bitdefender, a leading cyber security company, has a test report regarding a new type of password theft, which focuses on cryptocurrency wallets that users have on their PCs. Bhunt, as this new malware is called, penetrates computers through the installation of infected software, mostly cracked software. According to the technical document published for the software, Bhunt attacks Exodus, Electrum, Atomic, Jaxx, Ethereum, Bitcoin and Litecoin money exchanges. After installation, the software can transfer the funds of the users to another wallet and also steal other private data that is on the infected computer.

password thieves are not new in the PC sector, since computers can already be infected by various viruses that also have these skills. The special thing about this software is that its presence is strongly encrypted and it is packed as a digitally signed software, but the certificate issued does not match the binary file of the program.

Infection and prevention

Bitdefender came to the conclusion that Bhunt was released in the wild due to the way it spread, without a clear goal. To spread the software, Bitdefender's report says:

Our entire telemetry comes from home users who have more likely installed cryptocurrency wallet software on their systems. This target group also installs cracks for operating system software, which we suspect as the main source of infection.

The company indicated the extent of the infections found on a card, and the countries with most infections were Australia, Egypt, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Norway, Singapore, South Africa, Spain and the USA

Bitdefender also published recommendations to avoid infection with Bhunt or with other similar malware to steal passwords. "The most effective way to defend yourself against this threat is to avoid the installation of software from non -trustworthy sources and to keep security solutions up to date," concluded the report.

Recently there was a torrent that contained the new "Spiderman: No Way Home" film also reported contained.
