Deloitte organizes webinar with NY FED Innovation Center, Mastercard, Citi and Sullivan & Cromwell to present the results of the Proof-of-Concept of Regulated Liability Network

In cooperation with the NY Fed Innovation Center, Mastercard, Citi and Sullivan & Cromwell, a webinar will organize the results of the Proof-of-Concept of Regulated Liability Network (RLN) in cooperation with the NY FED Innovation Center, Mastercard, Citi and Sullivan & Cromwell. The webinar will offer an insight into the progress and results of the project, which aims to demonstrate the feasibility of a system, is based on shared distributed main books.

The results of the project were summarized in separate technical, business and legal reports in order to enable a comprehensive assessment of the feasibility of the RLN. The legal report emphasized that no legal obstacles were identified that would prevent the creation of the system in accordance with the applicable regulations.

It is important to note that the project has focused on regulated assets and therefore cryptocurrencies, stable coins as well as free-permit blockchains and retail CBDCs were not taken into account.

The New York Fed has made it clear that the research results do not signal a decision on a possible introduction of a US CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency). By von Zelowitz, the director of the NYIC, explained that the proof-of-concept has enabled valuable knowledge in the area of the tokenized regulated deposits and that understanding the potential functional advantages of digital currencies of central banks and commercial banks have improved.

The RLN project was announced in November as a 12-week pilot project and attracted the participation of well-known financial institutions such as the Bank of New York Mellon, Citi, HSBC, MasterCard, PNC Bank, TD Bank, Truist, US Bank and Wells Fargo.

The webinar offers a valuable opportunity to explore the progress in the field of digital currencies and the potential of a tokenized infrastructure. Payment processing, CBDCs and banking in general benefit from innovations such as the RLN system, which is based on distributed main books.
