Ethereum developers confirm Shanghai upgrade on April 12th

On March 28, the support team of the Ethereum Protocol published an update to the start date of Mainnet Shapella. They confirmed that the Hard Fork will take place on April 12, two weeks from today.

Shapella is the new name for the Shanghai upgrade, as it combines changes to the execution layer (Shanghai), the consensus layer (capella) and the engine api.

The date announcement takes place after a smooth Goerli-Testnet transition. In addition, the bug bounty rewards were doubled by April 5 for those looking for Shapella weak spots.

Ethereum clients are ready

The blog post made it clear that the upgrade enables validiers to withdraw their use of the Beacon Chain back to the execution layer.

"It also introduces new functions in both the execution and the consensus level," added.

All important Ethereum clients, including Lighthouse, Lodestar, Nimbus, Pysm and Teku, now support the Shapella upgrade.

Ethstaker and Ethereum Cat Herders organize a Shapella viewing party shortly before the upgrade was published so that people can follow it in real time.

There were concerns that a large amount of Ethereum after the Hard Fork is no longer used and sold to the markets. However, this is unlikely due to the gradual publication, which was implemented for reasons of network security.

The ETH exit period is dynamic and depends on how many validators get out at this time. In addition, validators have to go through a two -stage process in order to withdraw. This includes an output queue and a payout period.

A network security mechanism called "Churn Limit" defines the output queue and ensures stability. The cancellation period in turn depends on how much ETH is marked from the ecosystem.

There are currently around 17.9 million ETH on the Beacon Gestaket Chain. At current prices, this is estimated at around $ 32 billion and corresponds to about 15 % of the total circulating offer.

ETH price view

Ethereum prices have risen by around 3.8 % in the last 24 hours. As a result, according to Coingecko, ETH was traded at $ 1,780 at the time of writing this article.

The asset has caught up with all losses from the burglary caused by the news from CFTC Binance and is on the way to exceed the $ 1,800 mark again.

Ethereum is currently 63.5 % below his all -time high of November 2021 of $ 4,878
