The mixed reactions of Crypto Twitter on a new rollup solution for Bitcoin

A scalability solution unique for Ethereum is now compatible with Bitcoin. Rollkit enables the storage of rollup information developed for Ethereum, but in the Bitcoin network.

According to an official explanation, Rollkit - a modular framework for rollups - was successfully started on March 5, 2023. The solution could at least theoretically help to optimize the use of the free space on the Bitcoin blocks and to expand the skills of the network:

Sovereign rollups on Bitcoin not only expand the possibilities for rollups, but also have the potential to build a healthy market for block space fees on Bitcoin and enable a more sustainable security budget

A rollup is basically a way to compress or group a series of transactions into a single one, which increases privacy and the network becomes more efficient.

extended skills on Bitcoin

rollkit supports various execution levels, including the virtual machine from Ethereum and Cosmwasm from Cosmos. Each blockchain has an architecture from different layers that support a number of properties. The execution layer is part of the application layer. Smart contracts, protocols, dapps etc. are part of this layer.

The team shared a YouTube video that shows how a roller kit rollup with Ethermint can use Bitcoin as a data availability layer.

If the application layer is the more demanding layer in the blockchain, the data layer is the most fundamental - it is basically the order of the blocks in a blockchain that guarantees that the knots work synergetically and know what is going on in the network. The data availability layer guarantees that all nodes process the same transaction data.

To achieve this, Rollkit rely on Taproot and Ordinals. Taproot is a hard fork that increases the privacy and functionality of the Bitcoin network and the way for future developments such as Ordinales, which are the equivalent to non-fungal token (NFTS), store the data in the Bitcoin network in Hexadepimal format.

According to the roller kit team, this integration enables "the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) to perform on Bitcoin as an independent roller kit roll". According to the developers, these have the potential to expand the opportunities for these second layer solutions and to contribute to creating a healthy fee market for Bitcoin.

crypto twitter reactions

The message was recorded with mixed reactions by Bitcoin enthusiasts. Some praised the development because of their ability to bring something new to the industry, even if this enthusiasm is accompanied by their own reservations.

sweet love to see people who build in Bitcoin layers, and that should be applauded. 👏

others criticized the technology. Some BTC users believe that the Bitcoin network should be used for financial transactions and nothing else. The use of the network for other purposes can be disadvantageous for users, as they have to compete for the limited space of each block.
