RTFKT's COO says he lost his NFTs in a phishing attack
New Year or not, NFT thefts are increasing. Nikhil Gopalani, the RTFKT COO, has become the latest victim. The manager went to Twitter to reveal that he had lost a considerable number of NFTs from his wallet in a phishing attack.
"Hey Clone X-Community-I was chopped by a clever phisher (same phone number as Apple ID) and all my Clone X / some other NFTs sold ... Obviously quite annoyed and injured and I couldn't really move all day. I hope that the people who bought my clones love (so that I can be positive)."
- Phishing fraud is widespread in the crypto ecosystem, where fraudsters tempt users to accidentally hand over the login information to their wallets in order to initiate an irreversible transaction.
- on-chain data showed that the attacker used two wallets that were used to jointly remove NFTs worth more than $ 173,000 from Gopalanis Wallet.
- While one of the wallets was found empty, the other contained 19 Clonex NFTS, 18 RTKFT Space Pods, 17 Loot Pods, 11 Cryptocicks and 19 RTFKT Animus Eggs.
- Details are thin at the moment, but the CTO of RTFKT, Samuel Cardillo, said that Gopalani may have provided the phisherns who spend large companies available as large companies.
- Many community members were not happy that the managers decided not to reveal any further details about the entire incident, and described their answers as "very corporate".
- Cardillo, however, rejected the accusation and indicated that a legal examination may be underway, which is why no further information could be passed on.
- A Twitter user made an interesting point about stolen nfts.
"If someone steals your bike, it is generally known that the bike is still owned. With a NFT, the" owner "is the one who has the token in his wallet. So if someone is stolen by a phishing fraud, the blockchain treats the thief as a new owner. ”
