Argentina: Lawyer calls for presidential candidates to introduce Bitcoin to
A prominent Argentine lawyer has recommended a leading presidential candidate to give up his plans for the dollerization of the country and instead introduce cryptocurrency. Javier Milei, a right -wing politician who is described by some as populist, is known for his support from Bitcoin (BTC). Last year he was involved in a controversy in connection with cryptocurrencies.
The plan of Milei to dollar the Argentine economy, but is criticized for some. Carlos Maslatón, a well-known lawyer and BTC advocate, described Mileis plans as "wit" and emphasized that the dollar was forced while Bitcoin was the only voluntary currency.
Maslatón, who also had political ambitions, failed in his attempt to win his party's approval. Milei is currently in the surveys with a support rate of around 18 %, while Sergio Massa, the top candidate, receives 10 % more approval.
The debate about the introduction of Bitcoin in Argentina is increasing. Martin Tetaz, a legislator from Buenos Aires, suggested that the citizens should keep their savings in BTC instead of USD or pesos. The government of Buenos Aires recently tried to receive a new loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which led to an accelerated regulation of cryptocurrencies in the country.
It remains to be seen whether Argentina will choose Bitcoin as an official currency. The discussions about the advantages and risks of such a change are in full swing, while politicians and lawyers continue to represent their positions in public.
