IOTA: Delays during the log change to rebase
IOTA recently published its progress report for the first quarter of 2025 and announced that the target date for the change of logs to Iota Rebased will be postponed to the second quarter. A start in March was originally planned, which led to a negative market trust among investors.
The IOTA project faces a decisive turn with the change to Rebased, which aims to take over the technological basis of SUI in order to overcome the existing challenges with the outdated tanglenet. This decision was made in November 2024 when the IOTA Foundation found that development work on the old protocol was unsuccessful.
In February, Dominik Schiener, the CEO of the IOTA Foundation, confirmed the original start date for Rebased in March. This update was particularly important because Iota Rebased Smart Contracts should enable the network to be native, which is essential for complex blockchain solutions. In addition, the previous problem of a central coordinator is to be remedied by a decentralized system with up to 150 validators. Those responsible had hoped for a significant time gain from the switch to the proven SUI technology.
According to the current progress report, however, there is still no specific starting date for IOTA Rebased. There are delays in the completion of the software for the network points and reworking for the safety tests for smart contracts are required. These uncertainties have led to the trust of the investors in Iota. After a short increase in price in winter, IOTA's course fell to less than $ 0.17-a level that is unsatisfactory for many investors. For comparison: IOTA had reached over 5 US dollars at the end of 2017 and at the last major upgrade to IOTA 1.5 (Chrysalis) in spring 2021 temporarily exceeded the $ 2 brand.
FAZIT: IOTA Rebased under pressure
The repeated delays when changing the protocol to Iota Rebased could have serious consequences for the project. In a market that tends to increase, Iota could lose connection, especially in view of the uncertainties that arise from economic factors such as impending trade wars. The critics doubt that Iota, as a "dinosaurs" among cryptocurrencies, can actually compete with SUI with grown contacts to the real economy.
The lack of transparency and communication skills of the IOTA team have often led to confusion and skepticism in the past. The missed start date for IOTA Rebased is another example of this. If the project does not go live soon, Iota could run danger that the initial interest and the enthusiasm for the update will pass while the crypto caravan continues. The coming months will be decisive for the future of IOTA and the Community hopes for progress and an early launch date.
